RPG Adaptation: Bleach – Kyouka Suigetsu (Akashic Mysteries) [PF1E]

What follows is the result of watching one too many Bleach related YouTube videos recently.

Blade of Perfect Hypnosis

The hamon of this katana’s blade plays strange tricks on the eyes.

You gain the ability to manifest a katana overflowing with hallucinatory power. This weapon-like veil acts as a katana sized appropriately for you. You may choose to use your veilweaver level in place of your base attack bonus when attacking with this veil.

In addition, a number of times per day equal to your veilweaving modifier you may take a point of essence burn to use silent image as a spell-like ability with a caster level equal to your veilweaver level.

Essence For each point of essence invested in this veil, the weapon deals an additional 1d6 points of slashing damage. If you have at least 4 points of essence invested in this veil, you may use silent image as an at-will spell-like ability without taking a point of essence burn, and you may take a point of essence burn to use complex hallucination as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to your veilweaving modifier.

Chakra Bind (Hands) [D4, E3, N2, V2] Binding this veil to your Hands chakra grants Blade of Perfect Hypnosis a +1 enhancement bonus per point of essence invested (maximum +5). As long as this weapon has at least a +1 enhancement bonus, you may also use any invested essence to gain a +1 effective enhancement bonus you can spend towards any of the following weapon special abilities: cunning, defending, ghost touch, keen, speed, vorpal, or wounding.

Chakra Bind (Wrists) [D7, E12, N8, V8] Binding this veil to your Wrists chakra grants you all the benefits of binding it to your Hands chakra, and as a standard action you can surround yourself in a 15 foot aura of fog and diffused reflections for a number of rounds per day equal to your veilweaver level; these rounds do not need to be consecutive. This aura does not impact visibility or create a miss chance, but enemy creatures within its area, or who later enter its area, must succeed on a Will saving throw or attack their nearest ally on their next turn. If necessary, affected creatures move to or charge their nearest ally in order to make this attack. If unable to reach their closest ally on their next turn, the affected creatures use their turn to get as close as possible to their nearest ally. Creatures that leave the area and come back must save again to avoid being affected by the effect. Once a creature has succeeded on a saving throw against this ability, they cannot be affected again for 24 hours. For each point of essence invested in this veil, the radius of this effect increases by 5 feet. This is a mind-affecting pattern effect.

Chakra Bind (Chest) [D19, N18, V18] Binding this veil to your Chest chakra grants you all the benefits of binding it to your Hands chakra. Additionally, 3 times per day you can use a spell from the following list as a spell-like ability: greater illusion of treachery, greater invisibility, mirage arcana, mislead, scripted hallucination, veil.

While working on this conversion I had to split the difference between creating something reasonably balanced and converting the source’s demonstrated feats. This of course was a bit tricky given the ridiculousness of Kyouka Suigetsu’s perfect hypnosis ability. As for why I decided to make it into an Akashic veil there are two main answers. First, veils are awesome. Second, similar to the Zanpakutō of Bleach, veils exist in something a conceptual middle ground between being equipment and being special abilities.
